§ 44-26. Water service security deposits.

  • (a)

    A cash deposit of at least $50.00 shall be required of all persons requesting water service to any structure, including but not limited to any residence, small store, office or shop, if the person requesting water service is the record owner of the property and is applying for and putting the water meter in his name and is directly responsible for payment of the bill.

    (b)

    A cash deposit of at least $100.00 shall be required of all persons requesting water service to any structure, residence, small store, office or shop, if the person requesting water service is not the record owner of the property or if someone other than the record owner of the property is responsible for payment of the bill.

    (c)

    The deposit for water service for customers whose water consumption is reasonably expected to be fairly large shall be the least multiple of $100.00 that is greater than or equal to the expected monthly bill.

    (d)

    The deposit for a floating meter shall be $500.00.

    (e)

    The deposit for accounts that have been shut off for nonpayment twice within six months shall be double the standard amount set forth above, payable before reinstatement of service on the second occurrence. This deposit may be reduced to the standard amount set forth above if the account is not shut off again for nonpayment for a period of at least one year.
