§ 22-115. Book to be kept; entries required.

  • Every pawnbroker shall keep a book in which shall be legibly written in ink at the time of each loan an accurate description in the English language: The name of the person making the loan as well as the goods, article, or thing pawned or pledged, the amount of money loaned thereon, and the time of pledging same. When a watch or other item bearing a serial number and/or an etched identification number is pawned, the number, name of maker, letters or marks must also be entered in the book; and whenever any articles manufactured from gold or silver are pawned, all letters or marks must also be entered in the same book. No entry made in such book shall be erased, obliterated or defaced. Entries shall include the personally identifiable information and the transactional information for each pawn transaction. These records, which may be maintained electronically, shall be on the pawn shop premises and kept for a period of two years.
