§ 22-112. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Pawnbroker means a person who lends money on a deposit or pledge, or who takes other things into possession as security for money advanced, or who purchases property for the purpose of selling it back at a stipulated price, or who makes a public display at his place of business of the sign generally used by pawnbrokers to denote their business, namely, three gilt or yellow balls, or who publicly exhibit a sign that money is to be loaned on personal property or deposit.
