§ 20-10. Fences.

  • Fence design must be in harmony with the nature of the district. The following materials, used in accordance with their locations, are generally acceptable: To enclose the front sides up to the beginning of the house or structure, not to exceed 48 inches in height: iron picket, brick, wood picket, decorative cement block and iron picket. The following fencing materials are not acceptable for the front and sides up to the beginning of the house or structure: barbed wire, chainlink, concrete block, stockade, plywood, hardboard, asbestos board, steel aluminum, or tin. Fencing across the back property line and along the sides lines, up to the front of the house or structure, may be constructed from some of these materials, pending approval from the historic district commission.
